Set 6 Walter Bosse brass Hedgehog ashtrays for Bertha Baller Austria
description
There is a lot to be said about these ashtrays being genuine or not. According to the Bosse Catalogue, these were made in Germany and only ever out of brass. They were then blackened leaving brass spines and a long pointy nose. The baby, which is the smallest of the set has one of two types of legs, the earliest being long legs and thereafter the shorter legs with a cross in-between. These ashtrays were never marked, well someone did find a stamped one, made in Germany, but that makes it very rare indeed.
Ashtrays made from any other material is considered a fake. The spines of the fakes are rather sharp as well as the body being of a textured nature.
Here for sale is a genuine set of 6 Brass Hedgehog Ashtrays designed by Walter Bosse for Bertha Baller of Austria. c1950s
Condition: The larger ashtray has been well polished. The next also has had a lot of cleaning and the rest are with their blackened coating. Adding to the genuine and charming effect.
