South African Kalahariware Studio Pottery plate of a young maiden with her headress 20thc

A very clean and striking example of a young Xhosa maiden with her tradition headdress in the usual bright African colours. The founders of this studio, Klopeanous and his wife Elma, opened initially in Johannesburg and in 1950 moved to Cape Town. Their designs were bright and striking and examples in these enamels are hard to find.
Condition: Excellent. In the pic two small brown spots to the lower half of plate which is in the glaze. There are no faults other than that in manufacture early C1950s. Held by all south African Museums
